Tux is the Linux mascot. In 1996 Larry Ewing drew him in GIMP: flat, friendly, a bit lumpy. Years later a Windows‑XP customisation site, crystalxp.net, made its own Tux. Not a touch‑up — a different penguin altogether: glass eyes, reflections, a beak you could see yourself in. That is the Tux somebody uploaded to Roblox. That is the Tux on every tycoon wall, every obby, every free model you ever dragged in. Not the flat one. This one.

1996Larry Ewing draws a penguin in GIMP for the Linux kernel. Linus wanted a penguin. He says one bit him at a zoo in Canberra. James Hughes suggests the name: (T)orvalds (U)ni(X). Tux.
2000scrystalxp.net, a French Windows XP customisation site, makes its own Tux for its icon packs. Not a retouch — a different drawing. Glass eyes. Reflections. Suddenly Tux looks like he cost money.
2008Someone uploads the glossy one to Roblox as a decal. Then everyone does. He's on the wall of the tycoon. He's the face of the obby checkpoint. He's a free model. He's "tux (1).png" in eleven thousand inventories.
2026$TUX. The Roblox penguin — which is the crystalxp penguin — which is the Linux penguin. Still on every wall.
